Weekly tips for better grades with less stress from The Grade Coach

A Note From Julie

Hi ,

Summer is officially here! For the few that are still in school only the fun stuff is left. Around the world students are sighing with relief and parents are glad to have a break from all the scheduled activities. Summer vacation is a time to relax and regroup, to store up energy for next year.
I am going to taking some time to relax and spend time with family this summer too. So after next week my newsletters will go on to a summer schedule of one every 2 weeks.

Even over the summer there are a few things you can do to make your school year work better for you. Starting with closing down the year and thinking back. As usual I will go into each in more depth in my blog. Drop by and let me know what you think   http://thegradecoach.com/coach/blog

Relax and have fun with all the end of year activities.

Wishing happiness and success

Focused Time Management System - For School and Beyond

I am really excited about this product because it will allow students who I cannot help personally have access to a lot of the same information and exercises that I use in my intensive coaching program. It is like having me with you in a binder!
It is designed for older students (High school Junior and above) to use independently or for the parents of younger students to use to coach them through the process.

FEATURE ARTICLE

How a Smelly Backpack Can Make Next Year Better!

As school finishes it is very tempting to throw your backpack, and the contents of your locker, into a corner and forget about school until the end of summer. But a little time spent now can bring huge benefits later.
  1. Empty out the contents of your backpack and all the stuff you brought home from your locker
  2. Throw away trash (real trash - not papers and homework you couldn't find that were lying at the bottom of your bag)
  3. Pull out things you would like to keep for sentimental reasons - art work you are proud of, an essay etc - put them away in a defined place, for instance a memory box.
  4. Separate out the things you need to keep for next year - books, notes, locker accessories etc
  5. Store the things you need for next year sensibly and take a note of any supplies you may need to add. This will save a lot of time in stores when you would rather be in the sun!
  6. Sit down for a few minutes and gather your thoughts. Jot down a few notes on what worked well for you this year and what you might want to try differently.
  7. Focus on how you organize both your time and your stuff. What comes through to you that you would like to change?
  • Did the set up of your locker work - or have you been struggling to find things all year and found a pile of papers at the bottom when you cleared it out?
  • Did you cope well with all the paperwork that you brought home?
  • Did you always have everything you needed to study or complete an assignment? Again think about what worked well and what you would change.

Without doing this, by habit, you will start the next school year the same as last year and fall into the same pitfalls. By taking stock now, while the memories are fresh, you can make sure that the changes that are worth making will be in place ready for the start of the new year.

If you or your child are struggling to control your time and get the results you know you are capable of then it is time to take action.  The Focused Time Management System TM for Students avoids all the clutter and gives you the most important things to focus on to get you back in control of your time and your life. It's all step by step, not a big mish mash of things. So you do step one of the system, and when you're done with that, you move on to step two, and so on. So easy!  All the tips, tools, and worksheets are handed to you on a silver platter.  E mail me at Julie@thegradecoach.com to arrange a time to chat over your issues and see if I can help.
