Weekly tips for better grades with less stress from The Grade Coach

A Note From Julie

Hi ,

I have been through some interesting developments in the last couple of weeks and this has caused me to challenge my own time management skills.  As this issue goes out I will be running a workshop on behaviors and how they impact communication and cooperation in a work environment. This is an exciting topic for me and I got a chance to learn a lot of new things while I was developing the workshop. I have also been asked to speak to a group of business owners on time management as well as my usual speaking to parents and students on time management for students.

I am always amazed at the opportunities life throws my way!

It got me to thinking about working on very different projects and the impact that can have on how you cope with your time, so this week's article focuses on Multi tasking and it's dangers!

My blog this week takes a few great quotes about time and develops those thoughts into some quick tips. Let me know what you think.- check it out here.

I hope you enjoy this weeks articles.

Wishing happiness and success
Julie Baird

RECOMMENDATIONS

Time Management for Students

Are you sick of your child coming home with grades that don't show how smart they really are? Are you tired of seeing them up all hours of the night trying to keep up with the work? Have they ever lost grades because they forgot about a test? Had no time to study? Forgot their books? Had too many things to do? Got distracted?

If any of this sounds familiar I recommend Time Management for Students

This is an 8 week E-Course - delivered right to your student's e mail. Consider it time management 101. Each week there is a short lesson (about 15-30 minutes) and an assignment to tailor the learning to their needs. Downloadable worksheets support the learning.

It is a great first step either for an independent learner or with the parent as a coach.

    FEATURE ARTICLE

Why Multi Tasking is The Enemy of Productivity!

I love having many things on the go at once. I like the variety and stimulation it brings. And I am fortunate enough to have had a few great opportunities recently.

However it has made me reexamine my own time management practices.  As you may know, I have never claimed to be a naturally organized person, or that all this time management knowledge was somehow born in me. I do have to work at it, and like any other human being I have on occasion slipped up, and right now my office is showing the strain of attempting too many things at once!

Now, let me be clear, of course I will do all these projects - and many others - within the same timeframe, but it is trying to multitask that is causing the problem.

I love this great quote by Publius Syrus way back in 46BC!

"To do two things at once is to do neither."

So here is my quick tip of the week. If you have multiple projects or assignments (and who doesn't?) store them in separate folders, or drawers, or boxes and only have out the one you are actually working on at the time. This will increase your focus on the task at hand and greatly increase the amount of work you can get done in the same short period of time. If something comes to mind for another project, jot it down on a pad or post it note and put it to the side to sort out later, then re focus.

Now I have to go tidy my office!

If you or your child are struggling to control your time and get the results you know you are capable of then it is time to take action.  The Focused Time Management System TM for Students avoids all the clutter and gives you the most important things to focus on to get you back in control of your time and your life. It's all step by step, not a big mish mash of things. So you do step one of the system, and when you're done with that, you move on to step two, and so on. So easy!  All the tips, tools, and worksheets are handed to you on a silver platter.  E mail me at Julie@thegradecoach.com to arrange a time to chat over your issues and see if I can help.
