A Note From Julie

Happy St Patrick's Day ,

I know it was yesterday but let's face it all good celebrations last longer than one day!

We have also had a birthday to celebrate this week we now have an 11 year old in the house again! Unfortunately the torrential rain here in Massachusetts meant we had to postpone his party to this weekend. Apparently him and 15 friends will be building giant catapults and destroying things with bags of flour and water in my back yard!! I am sure they will have a blast, and it will be fun watching them, as long as I can keep them out of my house and hose them down before they go home!

With all the activities on the go just now my To Do List was looking rather scary and so I thought I would share a tactic I use when things get out of hand - check out this week's article.

I am about to revamp my products and some of my programs so I just wanted to warn you that if you want to pick up any at the current price, you need to do so before the end of March.  If you want to use the opportunity of Spring break to get under control for the new term, now is definitely the time to get started.

My blog this week looks at a few other ways to handle tasks and priorities. Let me know what you think.- check it out here.

I hope you enjoy this weeks articles.

Wishing happiness and success

3 Things You Can Do When Your To Do List Is Not Working!

To Do lists can be wonderful tools, especially if you are a natural list maker. However they need to be handled right to make them work.

When you first come up with a list of all the things that need your attention, from every aspect of your life, the list can be long and daunting.  Some people freeze at that point and hide it away. Procrastination can be very comforting in the short term. Unfortunately in the longer term it comes back to bite you in the butt!

So if you have a To Do list that has you hyperventilating here are some steps to take.

    1. Cross out everything that does not absolutely, definitely, have to be done today
    2. From the ones that are left choose 5 (only 5) that are the ones that will make the biggest impact for you. This might be because of the effect on your grades, getting rid of something that has been bothering you, creating space and time for other work etc
    3. From these 5 pick the easiest one for you to and start with that one.

Once you have finished the first thing, move onto your next and keep going till all 5 are done.  You will then be on a high! Give yourself a treat, and then if you have more time pick another 2 things to get going on.

If you or your child are struggling to control your time and get the results you know you are capable of then it is time to take action.  The Focused Time Management System TM for Students avoids all the clutter and gives you the most important things to focus on to get you back in control of your time and your life. It's all step by step, not a big mish mash of things. So you do step one of the system, and when you're done with that, you move on to step two, and so on. So easy!  All the tips, tools, and worksheets are handed to you on a silver platter.  E mail me at Julie@thegradecoach.com to arrange a time to chat over your issues and see if I can help.
