Weekly tips for better grades with less stress from The Grade Coach

A Note From Julie

Hi ,

I am getting everything together for the free parents teleclass on June 1st. The questions are rolling in and I am tuning my materials to make sure I hit all the hot spots.

Questions like:
  • How do I help my child to focus without being seen to be nagging?
  • How do I make him understand that he shouldn't leave things till the last minute?
  • What can you suggest to keep her room tidy?
  • What do I do to help when he is so overwhelmed he just shuts down?
  • How do we break the late night cramming cycle?

The lines are filling so if you haven't grabbed your spot yet then hurry over to http://tinyurl.com/2549983 and register now.

Remember to forward this to other parents who have a similar issue, but make sure you grab your slot first!

Like everyone else I am finding it hard to stay focused as the summer approaches. The teachers are already pulling their hair out trying to keep motivation levels high in the sunshine.  This week I have a few ideas about how to help stay on task.

This weeks blogs articles develop some of the themes more fully. Check it out and leave your comments http://thegradecoach.com/coach/blog

Have a great Memorial Weekend

Wishing happiness and success

It is like having me with you in a binder!

It is designed for older students to use independently or for the parents of younger children to use to coach them through the process.

7  Ways to Keep Focused This Close To Summer!

Summer is almost here and yet there are a lot of students still laboring away in classes. It seems almost torture to see those that have finished for the year walking about without a care in the world while you still have your head down studying.

And yet, as the teachers will keep telling you, it is really important to keep focused. The grades you earn at this time of year carry just as much weight as those at the beginning. Don't let them slide just because the sun is finally out!

So how can you keep that level of focus without going mad?

I have a few ideas. Give them a try and see what works for you.

    1. Hide in a basement, cover the windows and pretend it's still early spring.

    2. Decide on some space out, downtime activities. Here are some suggestions that don't need to take long

    • Take a walk
    • Jump in the sprinkler -it's not just for little kids - you know you want to J
    • Lie on the grass and watch the clouds
    • Do some weeding (you will also get brownie points with parents!
    • Shovel some mulch (again with the brownie points, plus it is a great stress reliever)
    • Chat with some friends

    3. Figure out time to space out and enjoy the good weather - make it achievement based rather than time based. For example, after I finish the draft on this project I can go for a walk

    4. Split your work into smaller chunks so you don't have to focus for so long before a break.

    5. Plan in a really fun activity that you will do at the end of the week if you achieve what you need to by then. Make it something you really want to do, but don't cheat - it only happens if you succeed.

    6. Get an accountability partner. Ask one of your friends to hold you accountable for making progress and completing your work. Do this for them too and give each other a hard time if you slack off.

    7. Drink plenty of water. As the weather heats up dehydration can be a big factor is loss of concentration. Make sure you have a water bottle at your side and keep well hydrated

So stay focused, keep your head down and have some fun along the way - the end is in sight!
